"chick flick" anyone? think again.

Assalamualaikum wa Rahmatulahi wa Barakatu,

Ibn al-Qayyim (may Allaah have mercy on him) said:

The seven physical faculties are the eye, ear, mouth, private part, hand and foot, which may be the cause of doom or the cause of salvation. The one who neglects them and does not protect them will be doomed, and the one who protects them and takes care of them will be saved. So guarding them is the basis of all good, and neglecting them is the basis of all evil. Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning):

“Tell the believing men (AND THIS APPLIES ALSO TO WOMEN) to lower their gaze (from looking at forbidden things), and protect their private parts (from illegal sexual acts)”
[al-Noor 24:30].
Ighaathat al-Lahfaan (1/80)

For those of you who do not think that TV or watching movies is by no means HARAM, well, this post is dedicated just for you (all). I have been witnessing lately many sisters who openly share their infatuations for romance films, (sci-fi) fan-fiction films, male celebrities, obsessions with sitcoms, and any other non-Islamic haram things that the Western world tries to brainwash everyone into following. This is a serious problem that needs to be addressed and it would most definitely fall under the issue of, you guessed it! MODESTY!

I would just like to remind us all that we are Muslims. What separates us from the non-Muslims, is our modesty (and of course the obvious; our faith, our belief system, etc.) but MODESTY, dear sisters, this is something so sacred and so beautiful. Modesty is like a forbidden river secluded up in the highest tops of the mountains, and all that flows is clear, clean, pure water that has never been touched by the pollutants of the earth. I don't think that many of us really pay close attention to what the true meaning of MODESTY truly is. We think, modesty, is just something we adopt with our way of dress. We forget that MODESTY includes the way we speak, think, act, and the way we carry ourselves. That being said, let us explore the issues about the TV & MOVIES, which tampers with our modesty and puts a defect in it as well.

We think there is nothing wrong with a simple film like "Twilight" or "Harry Potter" or any romance film with Ryan Gosling or Channing Tatum or the next kafir "teen heart throb". However, we fail to realize the problems that these films bring to the youth of the Ummah in today's deluded society. Let me just point out some certain scenarios for you that may occur in result of watching such kind of films.

Firstly, it wastes A LOT of time and it is only something that the kafirs submerge themselves with. Can you just imagine sitting in front of the screen for a good 2 hours minimum, wide-eyed and all emotionally attached to the fictional characters on the screen? Delaying your prayer, telling yourself "it's almost over anyway..." and then once your movie or tv show is over, your heart is all attached to an idea that you have started fantasizing about in your head which results in you having a hard heart and then being lazy to pray and lacking in khushoo' ?! The biggest fear is, what if Allah took your life while you were watching these nonsense films? "Oh that would never happen to me..." and to that I say, it has happened before and it has happened to a young man who was committing zina with his eyes online. Allah does WHATEVER HE WILLS. Just be prepared to answer Him, if you die in such a state.

Secondly, you paint an absolutely ridiculous picture in your head about these disgusting fictional characters. You start to fantasize about them and even fall into (audhubilah) obsession. You post things on your Facebook, Tumblr, Twitter! Pictures of them, quotes said by them, and you revolve your life around them!? These people are not even real! They are just kafirs who play a fake role onscreen and offline they are drug abusing, zina-committing individuals who support the Shaitan and don't EVEN KNOW HOW TO DO ISTINJA!? Wake up sisters!!! They don't even know you exist!! How can you fancy something like this? How can we leave our love for Allah to love Shaitan's dirty slaves?!!! Not to mention all the shirk you are committing! Remember, you are idolizing someone OTHER than Allah, the Almighty. You are putting them before Allah, and this is shirk. You need to repent IMMEDIATELY.

Thirdly, as if it was not obvious enough why these kinds of movies and television shows were a waste of time, just because they are not pornography does NOT mean that it is not considered as zina. YOU are committing some kind of zina believe it or not! Watching these kinds of movies opens the eyes, mouth, ears, heart, and soul to temporary artificial infatuation. A sudden lust of desire overwhelms you and you feel that you start to admire these male celebrities. Even if you had intentions of just watch a "harmless" film, Shaitan works his magic on you and you end up becoming drawn to these characters and that, my dear sisters, is exactly how Hollywood, Bollywood, Arabiawood, Chinawood and any other kind of "woods", if you will, works. They create these fictional characters that deceive people into thinking these kinds of people truly exist. They control these people and use them to control you. Shaitan is one sly monster and he will do ANYTHING to lead astray any of Allah's followers. These kind of films make you feel depressed and ungrateful for ALL the Blessings that Allah has bestowed upon you!!

Lastly, sisters, let us reflect again upon the word "modesty." Most women starring in such roles have absolutely abandoned their modesty. They display nothing but tabarujj and are beautified just to tempt them men AND women of today's society. Could you just imagine? If you watch a film or two each week for more than 2 hours, you start to notice all your flaws and your faults and you brainwash yourself into thinking you are not beautiful enough, or that it is perfectly fine to adorn yourselves to the non-mahrams, JUST like how these dirty kaferettes have done so!

MODESTY: Dear beloved sisters, this word is reserved especially for Muslim women. The most beautiful adornment on a woman is her modesty. Her truthfulness, her humility, her genuine fear for Allah. Modesty can not be bought and it should NEVER be sold. Especially for this temporary world that will diminish before our eyes. Watching movies with half naked men who try to seduce their fictional women counterparts is just something that is NOT for a Muslimah. Where is the hayaa sisters? Do you not have any sense of shame at all? I witnessed in my kafir days, enough immodesty in this Westernized world, and how I wish I had known what true modesty was ! We should envy ( in a good way) those sisters who GAURD their modesty and PROTECT their chastity as if it they were protecting their newborn child from the harms of the outside world! Our modesty needs to be protected and preserved because in the society that we live in today, good morals, good values, good ethics are rapidly becoming extinct!

We are the leading ladies of the future insha'Allah and how can we be good leaders if we are being followers of Shaitan??!! The woman is the foundation of her family. She is the core of the household! How can she be a truthful, trustworthy, chaste, modest woman if she can't even keep from the temptations of the television and the movies with half naked men running around like dogs? We day dream about marrying a religious brother or having many righteous children, but sisters, will watching these kinds of movies and television shows really bring us closer to that? Will it teach us more about our religion and will we learn more about who Allah and His Messenger (Sallalahu aleyhi wasselam) are?

Dear sisters, please protect your eyes, gaurd your hearts and hold on to your modesty and never give it up for this worldly life. It is just not worth it. By Allah's Mercy, He has granted us the gift of Islam, the gift of modesty and the gift of humbleness. A Muslim woman should not even expose herself to such harms , even if it is as small as watching non-mahram men online or on the screen or in public!!

Did the mother of the believers (May Allah be pleased with them all) EVER DO THESE KIND OF THINGS? Did they go into the market place and sit there and watch men walk around all day, staring at them? The answer is no. So then what are we doing to ourselves? Why are we polluting ourselves with such garbage? Think about it sisters, and reflect. Ask yourselves, what do I look like right now in the Sight of Allah? Would He be pleased with me? Will I find a righteous husband with a beard by sitting and wasting my life away fantasizing about a fictional slave of Shaitan's?

IF you answered no to any of these questions. Then you know your answer, and you know what you need to do. So act fast, and do not procrastinate for time is short and tomorrow is not guaranteed.  Fear Allah as He should be Feared and remember He is All KNOWING, ALL SEEING, ALL HEARING. These fictional characters will not save you on the Day of Judgement, nor will they help you at the time of your death.

I leave with you some given proofs of the dangers that which you are putting yourselves into, may Allah rectify all of our affairs and help us fight our desires and turn our hearts to His obedience and His alone. Ameen.

May Allah forgive me for anything that I've said that has offended you, anything good I've said is from Allah and anything bad is from my own self and I seek refuge in Allah from Shaitan the accursed. Ameen!

It was narrated from Abu Hurayrah (may Allaah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said:

“The zina of the eye is looking, the zina of the tongue is speaking; the soul longs and wishes, and the private part confirms that or denies it.”

According to a version narrated by Muslim: “The zina of the eyes is looking, the zina of the ears is listening, the zina of the tongue is speaking, the zina of the hands is touching, and the zina of the foot is walking. The heart longs and wishes, and the private part confirms that or denies it.”
Narrated by al-Bukhaari (6243) and Muslim (2657).

In Saheeh al-Bukhaari (6343) it is reported that the Messenger of Allaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Every son of Adam has his share of zinaa decreed for him, and he will undoubtedly get his share. The eye commits zinaa and its zinaa is looking. The tongue commits zinaa and its zinaa is speaking; the feet commit zinaa and their zinaa is walking; the hands commit zinaa and their zinaa is touching. The heart longs and desires for something and the private parts confirm that or deny it.”

Shaykh Ibn Baaz (may Allaah have mercy on him) said in al-Fataawa 3/227:

With regard to television, it is a dangerous device and its harmful effects are very great, like those of the cinema, or even worse. We know from the research that has been written about it and from the words of experts in Arab countries and elsewhere enough to indicate that it is dangerous and very harmful to Islamic beliefs (‘aqeedah), morals and the state of society. This is because it includes the presentation of bad morals, tempting scenes, immoral pictures, semi-nakedness, destructive speech, and Kufr. It encourages imitation of their conduct and ways of dressing, respect for their leaders, neglect of Islamic conduct and ways of dressing, and looking down on the scholars and heroes of Islam. It damages their image by portraying them in an off-putting manner that makes people despise them and ignore them. It shows people how to cheat, steal, hatch plots and commit acts of violence against others. Undoubtedly anything that produces so many bad results should be stopped and shunned, and we have to close all the doors that could lead to it. If some of our brothers denounce it and speak out against it, we cannot blame them, because this is a part of sincerity towards Allaah and towards other people.

Whoever thinks that this device (TV) can be free of these evils and can be used only for good purposes if it is censored properly is exaggerating and is making a big mistake, because the censor may miss things and most people nowadays want to imitate the foreigners. It is very rare to find censors who are doing their job properly, especially nowadays when most people are only interested in time-wasting entertainment and things that turn people away from true guidance. Reality bears witness to that.
We ask Allaah to keep us safe from all evil for He is the Most Generous.

It is reported that Ibrâhîm b. Adham (d162H) – Allâh have mercy on him – once passed through the market of Basrah. People gathered around him and asked:
O Abû Ishâq, Allâh the Exalted says in his Book. ‘Call on me, I will answer your prayers’, but we have been calling on Him for a long time and He does not answer our prayers. [Ibrâhîm] replied, “O people of Basrah, your hearts have died in respect to ten things: First, you know Allâh but you do not give Him His rights; second, you have read Allâh’s Book but you do not act by it; third, you claim to love Allâh’s Messenger – Allâh’s peace and blessings be upon him – yet you abandon his Sunnah; fourth, you claim to be enemies to Shaytân but you conform to [his ways]; fifth, you say you love Paradise yet you do not work for it; sixth, you say you fear The Fire yet you put yourselves closer to it [by sinning]; seventh, you say death is true but you do not prepare for it; eighth, you busy yourselves with the faults of others and disregard your own; ninth, you consume the favors of your Lord but are not grateful for them; and tenth, you bury your dead but take no lesson from them.”
Abû Nu’aym, Hilyah Al-Awliyâ’ 8: 15, 16.
