One Chinese Muslimah !

A memoir-blog written by a Chinese Canadian Convert.

Lately, I have felt the urge to write about a topic that many women can relate to. A topic that many women feel can liberate or oppress them. A topic which once was defined by each individual has now become defined by the mass media.

TRUE BEAUTY.

What is true beauty?

Well, beauty can be defined on many different levels. For example, beauty can be defined by some as "perfectly shaped eyebrows, beautiful hair extensions, a big (fake) chest, makeup artist skills, designer wardrobe, collagen injected face, fake nails, flawless skin etc.. " or true beauty could also be defined as " a pure kind heart, a natural face with no makeup, a smile, good manners, beautiful character, etc.." The definitions can be very broad but what we see in today's society is that true beauty is defined by the first definition. Surely, there are some marketing campaigns out there that try to advertise beauty as unconventional and not your typical 5'10, 120lbs, big chested, luscious hair extensions, all-year-around summer glow, flawless makeup routine etc.. Yes, we get that. Of course, usually these marketing campaigns are made to target a certain group of people (i.e- the yogis, the vegan lover, the "be comfortable in your own skin-even if it means be naked..) so either way, we know that it is the media who defines what beauty is because they want to make money and need to try to target every kind of people out there.

Well, what about targeting Muslim women ? Or Orthodox Jews and Christians? What about us women who find true beauty in covering our beauty? Why can we never find advertisements that express the true beauty of covering and remaining chaste and modest? See, the mass media never will consider this as true beauty. According to them and to the Western society, "true beauty" is not hidden. It is not something that should be concealed and kept in private for the people who matter ( i.e- husband, & permissible family members). True beauty is defined as "if you got it, flaunt it like no tomorrow!" This is true beauty in the eyes of many. When these kind of people see a Muslim woman or a conservative Jewish woman , they think  "wow so backwards and old fashioned! What is wrong with them?!" ...did they ever wonder that being dressed half naked dates back to the cavemen and prehistoric era? If anyone would be old-fashioned and backwards, then it is these very people! Subhana'Allah !

“Among the things that people have found from the words of the previous prophets was: ‘If you feel no shame, then do as you wish.’”
[Al-Bukhari]
Since when did other people, especially the media , dictate to US women WHAT is true beauty? Brainwashing thousands of innocent young women who are impressionable and naive and who do not know better, thinking they are overweight and hideous because they do not have fake breasts and fake-everything! How can true beauty be true when it has a price tag on it? When you need to buy your lips, your eye colour, your hair colour, your breast size, and your fat cells?! Since when has this become TRUE beauty? When the price tag of your shirt and pants cost more than your university tuition? Subhana'Allah! I wonder at such a thought ...How can this be true beauty when half of us can not even afford it?! No, this is not true beauty.. it can not be! This is something unattainable and extremely irrational! It truly breaks my heart when i browse through my instagram the public accounts in which all these women who many Muslimah women are trying so hard to copy; covered with makeup and expensive clothing ! Comments below by many women "wow gorgeous!" " OMG U ARE PERFECT"...

No.

True beauty....it is something that can never be attained except by the modesty of a believing woman. She knows that her Lord has created the man as weak and she knows that her beauty is not made to cause fitnah and lure others into a lustful trap! True beauty is when a woman knows that she has been ordered to COVER every part of her private parts from impermissible wandering eyes! The beautiful one is she who knows her worth and her value and she keeps it from the strange aliens of predators in this dangerous world!  True beauty is not showing off her beauty to everyone and anyone , but true beauty is when she preserves herself and her modesty for hers truly, Allah (and her husband) . True beauty is the woman who knows that she has been blessed with natural beautiful hair, lips, chest, and not needing to change or alter anything because she is pleased with what her Lord has given her!!! True beauty is NOT wanting to conform to society nor imitate everybody other girl on Instagram! True beauty is shyness, purity, and humility.
True beauty is the love we have for Allah.

bismillahir-Rahmanir-Rahim
great great great reminder about lowering the gaze.
This lecture helps explain everything that I want to say but this brother says it way better than I could. Please be mindful and do not stare at him while listening to the lecture.. I always recommend to play the lecture while maybe cooking, cleaning or doing a hobby that allows you to multi-task (listening while working - i.e - sewing, knitting, crochet ..etc)

"Truly, the life of this world is nothing but a [quick passing] enjoyment, and verily, the Hereafter that is the home that will remain forever.)"
(Qur'an 40:39)

Sorry for the LONG gap, I have been very busy with some personal matters and it has been taking up much of my time! But insha'Allah i will try my best to keep writing (BidhniAllah) ....

It has now been three years since I took my Shahadah (March 2011) and though I am still fairly new to Islam, I have learnt a lot about myself and what being a Muslim woman is all about. I still remember the day I took my Shahadah like it was yesterday; when I repeated those mighty, heavy words it was as if a huge weight was lifted off my shoulders and it was as if I was finally free from all the heavy burdens I had been carrying for nearly 26 years of my life. I could finally breath. I was free from my past, I was free from oppression, I was free from being a slave to my own desires and from being a slave to society. I WAS FREE!!!!!!!! Allahu Akbar.

The feeling of FREEDOM still remains with me and not a day goes by do I thank Allah for the gift of guidance to His BEAUTIFUL RELIGION, Islam. However, not a day goes by do I struggle with the media and society trying to dictate to me what MY religion is. The western society and media feel that they are entitled to make ignorant assumptions about WHAT Islam means, WHO Muslims are, and WHY Muslim women are oppressed. Well, as a Muslim woman AND as a convert to Islam, I feel that it is MY duty to clear up some misinterpretations which not only make the beautiful religion of Allah look terrible, but I'd love to also let the media know that it is not the HEADSCARF or the NIQAB that oppresses us, but it is merely your IGNORANCE that oppresses us.

Let me begin with a little bit about myself: I was born and raised in Toronto, Canada and it is one of THE most busy, diverse and multicultural cities in the West. I was a fashion student who dedicated my life to Vogue/Elle/Fashion magazines, fashion shows, fashion models, and living a very materialistic lifestyle. I was a social woman and I was also a hardcore gym 'junkie' and my body image was the most important thing in my life and I worshiped celebrities and had no religion, no morals and values. I lived for the moment, there was no filter with my words and I didn't care who you were or what you did, if I didn't like you,  you would know it. I mistreated my parents and I was selfish, extremely arrogant, and had no self-respect and no respect for others. The media played a huge role in my life and I basically educated myself through television and movies and they dictated to me what kind of woman I should be in society.

Sooo.....that WAS me in a nutshell. Definitely nothing to be proud of but Alhamdulillah, Allah, The Almighty took me out of this dark hole and guided me with light. What I want to start off with is to let everyone know (Muslim or not) that without a strong foundation of good morals, ethics, and values the individual not only becomes corrupt but so does the society as a whole. Whether you are educated or not, we can all agree on this because it is just common sense and our basic understanding of good vs bad. But the point I am about to make here, is what confuses many and even causes opposition from many individuals (even including Muslims, Subhana'Allah). The reason why society becomes corrupt is because the woman are corrupted in any way, shape, or form (or all for that matter) and once the woman is corrupt then it has a major domino effect on herself, her husband, and her family; once she is down than the entire household goes down with her.

Many, many, many people may disagree with me but this is not merely based on my opinion because if you look around you or even within your own family members, somewhere in between, you will find that there is a divorce, a single mother (not by choice), and immodesty sweeping the nation by storm. If you don't agree with me in that regard then please, let us explore the media and see just exactly what kind of women has society produced.

I can't believe that I was SO desensitized from all this before Islam. It never phased me that these women are possessed and hypnotized and sold their own self worth and self respect just for a cheap bargain of the worldly life! They have chosen to submit themselves to the devil and are trying to bring down innocent young women along with them. These women try to corrupt the fitrah of every single person and inject them with their virus. Shaitan uses these womens as his slaves to brainwash women into leaving their modesty while encouraging them to fornicate and show-off as much of their awrah (private parts) as possible. He uses women to promote empowerment through nakedness, hatred through vulgar cursing and slandering, and he even goes as far as making women dress as men so that they can subconsciously feel more dominant and powerful than men!

Yes, many Muslim women are seen these days imitating these slaves of shaitan and I mean how can we blame them? When every Muslim parent has a television in their home and they themselves do not even submit fully to Allah and fear Him, how can we then expect our youth, our next generation to lead righteous lives and follow the correct Sunnah of the prophet Muhammad (sallalahu aleyhi wasselam)? The moment we submit to our desires is the very moment shaitan sneaks into the door to your heart and one small "innocent" little sin...will eventually turn into bigger sins which then will cause us to fall into the greatest sins of them all! (and May Allah protect us from such diseases of the heart and from His Punishments! Ameen) ... submitting to your own desires, following those fashion hijabi girls and idolizing them like they are some sort of fashion guru's gift to society..or following young celebrity boys?! ...AstughfurAllah!?! These people will not help clean your heart, they will only blacken it! Do not follow them in their footsteps, remove yourselves from their circles and follow those who actually will benefit you and your akhirah !

Truly in the body there is a morsel of flesh, which, if it be whole, all the body is whole, and which, if it is diseased, all of [the body] is diseased. Truly, it is the heart.”
[Al-Bukhari][Muslim]

There is no more remembrance of Allah in our hearts and there is no more desire to follow the Sunnah of our beloved prophet. The Sunnah that he (sallalahu aleyhi wasselam) worked so hard to preserve has now vanished. Somewhere along the way we became arrogant and that arrogance took over and caused us to become ignorant. Ignorant in the deen of Allah, the Almighty, The Master of The Day of Judgement, The Owner, The Creator, The Most Merciful, The Oft Forgiving. He, the only One who deserves to be worshiped. He is Allah. He is the One who gave you your first breath, your eyesight, your hearing, your beauty, your wealth, your family, your ability to eat, sleep, breath. He is the Almighty, the One who gave you an education; He is the One who gave you wealth so that you could give it away to the poor and the needy. He is the One who gave you wealth so that you could spend it in His Way.

Islam gives women respect, honour, and purity!
What have we done? Where have we gone ? Where has our desires taken us? Who is our Lord and who is our Prophet (sallalahu aleyhi wasselam) ? What is our religion and what have we done with it? The only way we can find the answers to these life saving questions is by cleaning our hearts with the remembrance of Allah and by following the Sunnah of our prophet Muhammad (sallalhu aleyhi wasselam). When we HEAR we OBEY and not to our desires but to Allah alone. The proofs are clear and the religion is made to be easy and moderate because of the Mercy of Allah!

Evaluate yourself and who your friends are...ask yourself : If I were to die right now, what will I bring to Allah? Will I be able answer the three dreadful questions in the grave? Will Allah be pleased with me when I meet Him?

I guarantee you, you won't be ready to meet your Lord.

source : Al Fawaid (taken from the English translation of the book) p. 134
The ignorant people complain to people about Allaah, and this is the highest degree of ignorance, for if he had known his Lord, he would not have complained about Him, and if he had known the people he would not have complained to them.
One of the predecessors saw a man complaining to another man about his poverty and dire necessity. He said to him, ‘O you! By Allaah, you have done nothing but complain about He who has mercy for you, to the one who has no mercy for you’.
The following verses have been mentioned about the meaning of the previous statement of the predecessor.
When you complain to a son of Adam
verily you complain about the Most Merciful
to the one who does not pity.
On the contrary, the person who is profoundly knowledgeable about Allaah complains to Allaah alone. And the most knowledgeable person about Allaah is the one who complains about himself to Allaah, and never to people. He complains about the causes that make people do wrong to him, for he knows about the following Qur’anic verses,
‘And whatever of misfortune befalls you it is because of what your hands have earned. And He pardons much’
(Ash-Shura, 42: 30)
‘Whatever of good reaches you, is from Allaah but whatever of evil befalls you, is from yourself.’
(An-Nisa, 4: 79)
‘(What is the matter with you?). When a single disaster smites you, although you smote (your enemies) with one twice as great, you say: ‘From where does this come to us?’ Say (to them), ‘It is from yourselves (because of your evil deeds). ‘And Allaah has power over all things.
(Al-Imran, 3: 165)
Therefore, there are three levels: the lowest one is to complain about Allaah to his creatures, the highest one is to complain about yourself to Him and the middle one is to complain about His creatures to Him. May Allaah make us from those who complain to Him alone about ourselves, He the Majestic and Most High, Ameen.

Every muscle in the body was created to execute a specific function, by which, it can obtain the pinnacle of its performance. And the sickness of that particular body part is its failure to execute the function for which it was created or having some level of deficiency in performing it, if it even functions at all.
The sickness of the hand is its inability to grab or clutch. The sickness of the eye is its inability to see or observe. The sickness of the tongue is its inability to utter. The sickness of the body is its inability to move in the natural order it was created to or its deficiency in doing do. The sickness of the heart is its inability to execute the functions it was created to perform such as: being conscious of Allah, knowing Allah, loving Allah, desiring to meet Allah and turning constantly towards Him, while giving precedence to this over the heart’s every ardent desire.
Consequently, if the slave knows everything else but fails to know Allah, it is as if he knows absolutely nothing. Even if he achieves some share or portion of what this transient life has to offer (from its many pleasures and desires) but fails to develop a solid intimate relationship with Allah which produces an ardent desire to meet Him emerging from a strong love of Him, then he has failed to achieve the bliss this life has to offer as well as forfeited the ultimate pleasure of his eye.
Rather if the heart is completely void of the knowledge of Allah and the desire to meet Him, then all of what he obtained from the pleasures and delights of this life will inevitably become a punishment for him.
Thus he becomes a punisher of his own self, with the same exact thing he thought he was granting himself happiness and pleasure with. And this is from two angles:
The First: Because of the sorrow and grief that resulted from his forfeiture and his desire of the transient things of this life, it became a barrier between him and obtaining what his soul was utterly attached to.
The Second: Because he forfeited what was better, more beneficial and longer lasting for him, in that he never achieved it.
Hence, the beloved thing he attained was actually forfeited and the more beloved thing was never even achieved.
Everyone who truly knows Allah loves Him and devotes his worship to Him sincerely and completely and does not give precedence to the other things that are beloved to him over Allah.
And whoever does so, his heart is truly sick. Similar to the intestines of the human being, if it gives precedence to unhealthy food over food that is healthy, it loses its desire for the food that is actually healthy and accustoms itself to the unhealthy food.
It is possible for the heart to become sick, and the sickness will continue to increase while the individual does not even realize it, due to his preoccupation and negligence regarding its well-being and the means by which this well-being is acquired.
Rather the heart can die while the individual is not even aware of its demise. The indication that the heart is sick is that it is not affected by the injurious nature of evil, not bothered by the fact that it is ignorant of the haqq (i.e. truth), and its beliefs are flawed.
The heart that is full of life is affected by the injurious nature of evil and harmed by its ignorance of the truth based upon the extent of its life. But It is possible that the individual can recognize the sickness  of his heart, however, tolerating the bitterness of the medicine to cure it could be just as painful as the sickness itself.
Thus he gives precedence to the continuity of the sickness over the difficulties found in the remedy because the remedy actually opposes his desires and this is the most difficult thing for the soul but there is nothing more beneficial for it.
At times the individual accustoms himself to patience then it dissolves and his steadfastness weakens and eventually subsides due to his lack of knowledge, foresight and impatience, like a person who traverses upon a frightening path that actually leads to safety and security. And he knows that if he exerts patience the fear will subside and he will attain the safety and security he desires.
Nonetheless, he is in dire need of unyielding perseverance and certainty about the path upon which he is traversing. And whenever his patience and certainty weakens he will turn back from the path and will not be able to endure the difficulties of it, especially if he is alone without a companion to traverse this path with him. He will begin to say: “Where did all the people go? I need someone to emulate!”
This is the state of most people and is also the main component of their destruction. So the one who is truly knowledgeable, never feels alienated because there is a lack of camaraderie upon the path he is traversing or because he was abandoned, especially when his heart recognizes that it has a camaraderie with the foremost generation, those upon whom Allah has bestowed His bounty upon from the prophets, the truthful, the martyrs and the righteous, and how great is the company of these individuals.
Ishaaq Ibn Ra’huyah (Rahimahullah), one of the contemporaries of Imam Ahmad, was asked about an issue and when he replied to it, someone said to him: “Your brother Ahmad Ibn Hanbal was asked the same question and responded with the same reply as you did!”
So Ishaaq said: “I did not think anyone would agree with me in this issue!“
Therefore the ability of the slave to traverse this path alone in search of his success is, in itself, proof of the sincerity in his quest.
Thus Ishaaq did not feel alienated because no one agreed with him about the matter, even before the truth of the matter became apparent to everyone else and this is because, when the truth becomes apparent, it is not in need of anyone to testify on its behalf.
For the heart can see the truth just as the eye can see the sun. If the individual sees the sun with his own eyes his knowledge and belief regarding it, is not in need of anyone testifying or agreeing to the confirmation of its rising.

A believer covers up and advises

       المؤمن يستر وينصح..

Ibn Rajab Al-Hanbali writes:
وقال الفضيل بن عياض موضحًا الفرق بين الناصح والشامت: المؤمن يستر وينصح والفاجر يهتك ويعير

“When Al-Fudhayl Ibn Iyaadh was asked about the difference between advising and exposing, he said: “A believer covers up and advises [his or her fellow believers], whereas an evildoer exposes and humiliates [others].”

["Jami' Al-'Uloom wal-'Hikam", 77].

Bismillahir-Rahmanir-Rahim,

Assalamualaiukum wa Rahmatulahi wa Barakatu...

An important reminder for us all. I share the exact same thoughts as this brother (May Allah reward him ) and I encourage everyone to put their emotions and desires aside and really contemplate and reflect upon the grave dangers of Facebook or any social media for that matter . Especially for the sisters who have pictures of themselves posted all over the internet. Also a friendly reminder for Allah's Sake; I also encourage those who watch this to listen to the lecture while doing something (i.e- sewing, cooking, or folding laundry lol etc.) JUST so you don't have to sit and stare at the brother talking. Though this video is beneficial and a very important reminder, we should still maintain our shyness and lower our gazes when brothers are speaking and giving daw'ah (out of respect for him and for ourselves). Allah is All Seeing, All Hearing, and Most Wise.

Enjoy and please share! May we all benefit from such a reminder and may it encourage us to rectify our own affairs bidhniAllah ta a'la ! Ameen.

“He can’t even recite an aayah from the Quran properly—even if the Noble Mushaf were [open] in front of him—let alone the fact that he will make many mistakes when [simply] reading a Hadeeth of the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam). It is the love of fame. It is self-centredness, ‘I am here, I have knowledge. Maa shaa Allah about me.’”
Questioner: What is your Excellency’s opinion about … the Salafi da’wah in general, and specifically in Kuwait, Egypt and Saudi?
Al-Albaani: I say that unfortunately the Salafi Da’wah is now in disarray, and I attribute the cause of that to the hastiness of many of the Muslim youth to claim knowledge: so he will have the audacity to pass fatwas, and to declare things to be haram and halaal before he knows.
Some of them, as I have heard on numerous occasions, can’t even recite an aayah from the Quran properly—even if the Noble Mushaf were [open] in front of them—let alone the fact that he will make many mistakes when [simply] reading a hadeeth of the Prophet (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam). And so that proverb that is well-known in some countries is applicable to him:
إنه تزبب قبل أن يتحصرم
“He became a raisin before [even becoming] a sour grape.”
You know what الحصرم is, is this word used amongst you? When a grape starts out it becomes a green berry, this is what الحصرم is referring to, and it is very sour, so before he even reaches this stage of being a sour grape, he makes himself out to be a raisin.
Thus for many of these people to prop up their heads and be hasty in [both] claiming knowledge and writing when they have not even traversed half the way on the path to knowledge is what now unfortunately makes those who attribute themselves to the Salafi da’wah split into groups and factions.
And so there is no cure for this except for these Muslims to fear their Lord, the Mighty and Majestic, and for them to know that it is not for everyone who starts off seeking knowledge to take the lead in declaring fatwas about things being halaal and haram, or declaring hadeeths to be authentic or weak except after a long lifetime, a lifetime in which he practices learning how fatwas are delivered and how [verdicts] are derived from the Book and the Sunnah.
And in this respect these callers or Salafis must comply with that third check which I mentioned before when speaking about beneficial knowledge and righteous actions, saying that beneficial knowledge must be according to the methodology of the Salaf as-Saalih.
So nowadays when many of the Islamic callers depart from this check, the third check which Imam Ibn al-Qayyim, may Allah have mercy on him, indicated in his poetry when he said:
“Knowledge is, ‘Allah said … His Messenger said …
The Companions said …’ and it is not hidden.”
Not paying heed to what our Salaf as-Saalih were upon makes the people go back, after having been united, to disunity which separates them as it had done with many Muslims before, turning them into groups and factions, each faction pleased with what it has. This is my opinion of the situation.
So if, as we hope, they are sincere they must cling to the correct knowledge-based principles, and that the person who has not reached the level of having correct knowledge does not have the audacity to … that he keeps himself out of sight from [delving into] that and he entrusts knowledge to the one who knows it [i.e., the scholars].
… in this regard [there] is a narration which has been reported in the books of hadeeth, I think it was ’Abdur-Rahmaan ibn Abi Layla, may Allah have mercy on him, who was one of the major scholars of the Salaf as-Saalih, he said, “In this mosque …” and maybe he was referring to the Prophet’s Mosque, “… I met …” and then he mentioned a [specific] number of Companions, I forget the number now, “… so  when one of them would be asked …”
Interjection: Seventy.
Al-Albaani: Maybe it was. “I met seventy Companions in this mosque, when one of them would be asked a question or asked for a fatwa, he would wish that another one of the scholars from those Companions who were present would shoulder the responsibility for it,” and the reason for that was because they feared that they would make a mistake and thus [as a result] would cause other people to fall into making a mistake. So they would wish to not have to take this responsibility and that someone else would.
As for now, then the situation, most unfortunately, is the polar opposite.
And that is because of one reason, which is something I always mention: that this blooming which we now see for the Book and the Sunnah and the Salafi Da’wah is something new, this blossoming which they call an awakening has not been going on for a long time such that these people can reap the fruits of this awakening or blossoming in themselves, namely, by being nurtured on the foundations of the Book and the Sunnah and for them to then inundate, with this correct nurturing based upon the Book and the Sunnah, others who are around them, [calling] those closest [to them firstly] and then those after them.
So the cause is that the effects of this da’wah have not become apparent because it is new to this time in which we live, for this reason we find the situation to be the opposite of what ’Abdur-Rahmaan ibn Abi Layla reported about those Companions who would be cautious of being asked questions and who would wish that someone else would be asked, and the only reason that would make them answer a question would be because they knew that it was not allowed for them to hide knowledge—but in the depths of their hearts they used to wish that someone else would bear that responsibility.
As for now, in many Salafi gatherings let alone non-Salafi ones, a person who it is assumed has more knowledge than other people present is asked a question, and all of a sudden you will see that so and so has started to speak even though he was not asked, and so and so has started to speak even though he was not asked—what makes these people do that?
It is the love of fame.  It is self-centredness, “I am here,” i.e., “I have knowledge.  Maa shaa Allah about me.”
This shows that we have not had a Salafi tarbiyyah. We have grown up with Salafi knowledge, each according to his efforts and striving towards that knowledge, but as for tarbiyyah, then we have not yet acquired it as an Islamic, Salafi community …
… so we are now in an awakening in terms of knowledge but we are not in an awakening of correct upbringing [tarbiyyah]. That is why many times we find individuals, some callers, that can be benefitted from in terms of knowledge but not in manners—because he brought himself up on knowledge but was not in a righteous environment in which he was raised from childhood, and for this reason he lives carrying the manners which he inherited from that society in which he exists and in which he is found, and it is a society which without doubt is not an Islamic one, but he was able to, by himself or with the direction of some of the people of knowledge, follow the path of [obtaining] correct knowledge, but the effects of this knowledge are not seen in his manners, in his behaviour, in his actions.
The cause of this manifestation which we are talking about now is that we have not matured/fully developed in knowledge except a few individuals.
And secondly, individuals, even more so, have not been brought up according to a correct Islamic upbringing and that is why you will find that many of the beginners in seeking knowledge will prop themselves up as a head … the head of a Jamaa’ah or faction, and it is here that an old piece of wisdom which expresses this manifestation applies, it says, “The love of fame will break one’s back,” so the cause of [all of] this goes back to a lack of a correct upbringing on that correct knowledge.

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, "It is also charity to utter a good word."

A beautiful reminder (first and foremost to myself) about having good manners and speech towards our Muslim sisters in Islam.( assume 'sallalahu aleyhi wasselam and radiallahu anhu where applicable)

The Importance of Manners

Hadith - Bukhari's Book of Manners #286 and Ahmad

Abu Huraira, r.a., said, "I heard Abu al Qasim (the Prophet saaws), say, 'The best among you in Islam are those with the best manners, so long as they develop a sense of understanding.' "

Hadith - At-Tabaraanee collected it, and Albani authenticated it in Silsilatul-AHaadeethis-Saheehah (#432).

The Prophet (saaws) said: "The most beloved of Allah's servants to Allah are those with the best manners."

Hadith - Sahih Bukhari, Muslim, and Tirmidhi

Hadith - Sahih Bukhari, Muslim and Ahmad

... Anas said, "I served the Prophet of Allah, upon him be peace, for ten years. During that time, he never once said to me as much as 'Oof' if I did something wrong. ... Ibn 'Abbas said, "If you wish to mention the faults of your friend, mention your own faults first."

Hadith - Bukhari's Book of Manners #330

... Ibn 'Abbas said on the following verse of the Qur'an, "Nor defame one another" (49:11), "Do not spend your time finding fault with one another."

Hadith - Bukhari's Book of Manners #545

Jubayr ibn Nufayr reported that Mu'adh ibn Jabal said, "If you love someone, do not quarrel with him and do not annoy him. Do not ask others about him, for the one you ask might be his enemy and thus tell you things about him that are not true and thus break you apart."

Hadith - Bukhari's Book of Manners #889 and Ibn Hibban

'Amr ibn al 'As said, "...I am amazed at one who spots an impurity in the eye of another but is unable to detect it in his/her own eye, or who attempts to remove a grudge from another's heart while making no attempt to remove grduges from his/her own heart. I have never blamed anyone for the confidences of mine that they have betrayed. How could I, when already they have given me reason for pause?"

Hadith - Bukhari's Book of Manners #1295

Bilal ibn Sa'd al Ash'ari reported that Mu'awiyah wrote to Abu Darda' "Write to the wrongdoers of Damascus." So he asked, "What do I have to do with the wrongdoers of Damascus? How will I know them?" Abu Darda's son, Bilal said, "I will write to them," which he did. Then Abu Darda' said [to Bilal], "How did you know to whom to write? You could not have known they were wrongdoers unless you were one of them. Begin with yourself!" So he did not address the letter in anyone's name.*
*i.e. he didn't single out a specific person as a wrongdoer, but spoke about wrongdoings in general, to come as a reminder (of Quran and Sunnah) to the people.

Group Conversations

Hadith - Sahih Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Dawud, and Ibn Majah

'Abd Allah ibn Mas'ud reported that the Prophet of Allah, upon him be peace, said, "If they are three, two of them should not carry on a conversation from which the third is excluded, for surely that will be distressing to him."

Hadith - Bukhari's Book of Manners, Abu Dawud. Ibn Hibban classified the hadith as authentic.

Ibn 'Umar reported the same from the Prophet, upon him be peace. Except that in the end, he added, "We asked, 'If they are four?' He, upon him be peace, said, 'Then there is no harm.' "

Beware of Suspicion

Hadith - Sahih Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah, Ahmad, and Ibn Hibban
Abu Huraira, r.a., reported that the Prophet of Allah, upon him be peace, said, "Be careful of suspicion, for it is the most mistaken of all speech. Do not spy on others, compete* among yourselves, envy one another, or despise one another. Rather, be servants of Allah and brothers!"
*There is nothing wrong with healthy competition, particularly in doing good deeds. This hadith refers to competion that destroys team play and equality, etc.)

Hadith - Bukhari's Book of Manners #1294
'Abd Allah said, "Sometimes a victim of robbery will become so suspicious [of everyone around him] that he will become worse than the thief."*
*In other words, his suspicions will lead him to doubt everyone until he has destroyed every one of his relationships.
It is permissible to call over a person and inform them of the facts, so that they will not be suspicious, as we see in the following hadith (narration).
Hadith - Bukhari's Book of Manners #1293, Muslim and Abu Dawud
Anas reported that a man passed by while the Prophet of Allah, upon him be peace, was with one of his wives. The Prophet called the man and said, 'O So and so. This is my wife, so and so." The man replied, What I might have thought about another, I would never think about you." The Prophet, upon him be peace, said, "Shaytan [satan] will circulate through a person just like blood circulates [through one's veins]."

Have a sense of shame/shyness
(not being shy from doing good, but shyness from doing wrong)

Hadith - Sahih Bukhari, Abu Dawud, Ibn Majah, Ibn Hibban, and Ahmad

Abu Mus'ud reported that the Prophet of Allah, saaws, said, "Among the well-known wisdom of the prophets is the saying, 'If you have no shame, then do as you please.' "

Hadith - Sahih Bukhari, Muslim, Nasa'i, Abu Dawud, Ibn Majah, and Tabarani

Abu Huraira, r.a., reported that the Prophet, saaws, said, "... Having a sense of shame is one branch of faith."

Hadith - Sahih Bukhari, Muslim and Ibn Majah

'Abd Allah ibn Abi 'Atabah said that he heard Abu Sa'id say, "The Prophet of Allah, upon him be peace, was shyer than a virgin in her shift. Whenever he disliked something, we could see it on his face."

The sin of Pride

Hadith - Bukhari's Book of Manners #550
Abu Huraira, r.a., reported that the Prophet of Allah, upon him be peace, said, "Whoever eats with his servant, or rides a donkey in the marketplace, or who ties up his goat and milks it will no be guilty of the sin of pride.
Hadith - Bukhari's Book of Manners #556, Abu Dawud and Tirmidhi
Abu Huraira, r.a., reported that a handsome man went to the Prophet of Allah, upon him be peace, and said, "I love beauty, and I have been given what you see, even to the extent of my hating to be bested. Is that pride?" The Prophet replied, "No. Rather, pride is to disdain the truth and to treat others with contempt."

The sin of flattering or praising a person

(Flattering or praising is not just to say something kind about a person. Praising is to glorify especially by the attribution of perfections. Flattering is to praise excessively especially from motives of self-interest.)
Hadith - Sahih Bukhari, Muslim, Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi, Ahmad, Abu 'Awanah, and Ibn Hibban.

Abu Bakr reported that a man was mentioned in the presence of the Prophet, saaws, and another praised the man. The Prophet, saaws, said, "Woe to you, for you have broken your friend's neck!" The Prophet saaws repeated this several times and then said, "If any of you simply must praise another, let him/her say, 'I think the person is this way or that...' if you genuinely think the person to be that way. The Final Reckoner is Allah, and no one can tell Allah anything about anyone."

Hadith - Bukhari's Book of Manners #337, Bayhaqi, and similar version by Ibn Majah.

Aslam reported that he heard 'Umar say, "Praise is slaughter." One of the narrators added, "That is, if you accept it."

Hadith - Bukhari's Book of Manners #338, Nasa'i, Tirmidhi, Ibn Hibban, and Hakim

Abu Huraira, r.a., reported that the Prophet of Allah, saaws, said, "What a fine man Abu Bakr is. What a fine man 'Umar is. What a fine man Abu 'Ubaydah is. What a fine man Usayd ibn Hudayr is. What a fine man Thabit ibn Hudayr is. What a fine man Mu'adh ibn 'Amr ibn al Jumuh is. What a fine man Mu'adh ibn Jabal is." He said, "What a foul man so and so is. What a foul man is so and so."

Hadith - Sahih Bukhari and Muslim

'A'ishah reported that a man requested an audience with the Prophet, saaws. The Prophet said, "What a foul tribesman that one is." But when the man entered, the Prophet was cordial and pleasant to him. When the man left, another asked permission to meet with him. The Prophet said, "What a good tribesman that one is." But when he entered, the Prophet was not nearly as cordial with him as he had been with the first. When he left, 'A'ishah asked, "You said what you did about the first man, yet you met him cordially. And you said what you did about the second one, and yet you were reserved with him." The Prophet said, "O 'A'ishah, the worst kind of people are those whose vulgarity must be avoided."

Hadith Bukhari's Book of Manners #340, Muslim, Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah and Abu 'Awanah.

"The Prophet of Allah, (sallalahu aleyhi wasselam) ordered us to throw dust in the faces of those who flatter."

Hadith - Bukhari's Book of Manners #341 and Ibn Hibban

'Ata ibn Abi Rabah reported that when a man praised another in the presence of Ibn 'Umar, Ibn 'Umar began tossing dust in the direction of his face, saying, "The Prophet of Allah, saaws, said, 'If ever you encounter those who flatter, throw dust in their faces.' "

Hadith - Bukhari's Book of Manners #762 and Bayhaqi

'Adi ibn Artah said, "If ever one of the Companions of the Prophet of Allah, upon him be peace, was praised, he would say, 'O Allah, do not take me to task for what they say and forgive me for what they do not know about."

Regarding Fraud and Deceit

Hadith - Bukhari's Book of Manners #420, Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi, Hakim, and Tahawi

Abu Huraira, r.a., reported that the Prophet of Allah, upon him be peace, said, "A believer is frank and decent, whereas a wrongdoer is deceitful and blameworthy."

Hadith - Bukhari's Book of Manners #308 and Bayhaqi

... 'Abd Allah ibn 'Amr reported that the Prophet of Allah, upon him be peace, used very often to pray in the following manner, "O Allah! I ask You for good health, for trust, for self-control, for good manners, and to be satisfied with the divine decree."
